NATURAL EGG PROTEIN — EVERYTHING IT’S CRACKED UP TO BE

(Springfield, MO, June 22, 2007) – With all the news about contaminated protein sources being used in petfoods lately, it’s reassuring to know that egg protein is not just a viable alternate source of protein, but a superior one to other protein sources. “Eggs are a great way to ensure that dogs and cats get the highest quality natural protein available,” explains Gregg Griffin, director of sales and marketing for American Dehydrated Foods, Inc. (ADF™).

Eggs are a valuable and important food protein source in the diets of dogs and cats. Because of the nutrient bioavailability of egg protein—eggs have the highest levels of usable nutrients among wheat, rice, meat, milk, poultry and fish—it is an excellent addition to specialized petfoods, including starter, convalescent, lactation and gestation and maintenance diets. The protein from eggs helps build muscle strength too.

“The balance of essential amino acids in eggs is nearly perfect for animal dietary needs,” Greg Aldrich, Ph.D., president, Petfood & Ingredient Technology Inc., told Petfood Industry magazine in a Nov. 2004 article.  “Eggs are also full of valuable vitamins and nutrients—lecithin, choline, lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamins A and D, which contribute to optimal animal health and well-being. The egg is complementary to other ingredients in petfoods.” It makes many significant contributions to diet bioavailability of key essential nutrients for not just dogs and cats, but all animals, poultry and marine species.

ADF® Spray-Dried Eggs let petfood manufacturers reap all the benefits of egg protein in an easy-to-use format—free-flowing, granulated or pelleted. The all natural ADF® Spray-Dried Eggs are a major source of essential amino acids and have optimal protein digestibility for animals. “As a result of the recent petfood recalls, pet owners are looking for better quality foods for their cats and dogs,” says Griffin. “You just can’t get any better protein than egg protein.”

ADF™ TAKES LEAD IN QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR PETFOOD MANUFACTURERS

(Springfield, MO, May 10, 2007) – During the past few months, cat and dog food sold under more than 100 brand names has been recalled as hundreds of pets were sickened across the U.S. The cause of the recall has been identified as stemming from tainted ingredients imported from China. While the FDA is stepping up inspections to ensure that this type of incident does not recur, the agency also called for increased vigilance by manufacturers and processors of petfoods. In order to minimize the likelihood of future supply problems, David Acheson of the FDA’s Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition, said at a recent press conference that, “FDA and the states are going to raise awareness with manufacturers and processors about the importance of knowing all there is to know about their suppliers. We believe it is very important to further raise awareness about food protection and food defense…”

American Dehydrated Foods, Inc. (ADF™) also believes it’s important for petfood manufacturers to know their suppliers to ensure the safety of their food ingredients. “We at ADF take the utmost care with the quality and safety of our products, and we invite our customers to visit our facilities to see our quality measures firsthand,” says Robert J. Hoopingarner, vice president sales and marketing, ADF. “Because at the end of the day, the welfare of our companion animals is our foremost concern.”

For nearly 30 years, ADF has provided top quality, label-friendly petfood ingredients to petfood processors. All of ADF’s processing and spray drying plants use HAACP audits, are EU certified and are inspected by the American Institute of Baking, receiving the certification of “superior.”

GOURMET TRENDS IN PETFOODS AND TREATS DEMAND SUPERIOR INGREDIENTS
ADF® All-Natural Broth Boosts Nutrients, Label Impact and Shelf Presence.

(Springfield, MO March 12, 2007) – Imagine the impact on the consumer when the ingredient list for a canned petfood or special canned or soft-moist treat reads ‘broth’ instead of ‘water.’ ADF® broth lends weight to label claims of superiority compared to the labels that use “water” as the first ingredient. American Dehydrated Foods, Inc., (ADF) offers your choice of several broth ingredients to create that superior label in a cost-effective manner.

ADF produces all of its rich-tasting broth products by slowly cooking the meat. The broth is then concentrated to varying degrees, depending on the end product desired, and spray-dried. The spray-dried broth powder is now shelf-stable with a minimum shelf life of one year. All ADF broths are made from materials originating at USDA processing facilities. The broths that ADF supplies are typically used in canned petfoods as a replacement for water. American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) regulations allow for spray-dried broth to be reconstituted at 135 parts water to one part crude protein in formulation. This allows broth to replace water on the label of canned petfoods for a nominal increase in cost.

Also per AAFCO definitions, broth must be a minimum of 90% protein. All ADF spray-dried broths helps improve the protein content of a finished product and meets all AAFCO definitions.

"Most consumers view broth typically as culinary enhancement for human food recipes and dishes, and should readily embrace the label advantages of broth versus water for their pets’ canned foods," says Gregg Griffin, director of sales and marketing for ADF. "In addition chicken broth is one of the most easily digestible sources of protein for animal or human, so it adds an exciting first ingredient on the canned petfood product label, and a significant advantage in the eyes of the consumers comparing water to broth, while adding nutrients to the benefit of the pet."

ADF offers a wide variety of chicken broths with different product attributes and flavor profiles. Also, all ADF process plants have APHIS – EU Certified inspection numbers and offer a GMO- free product for your EU locations. While chicken broth and spray-dried blends are among the most popular versions of broth, ADF does offer other species of broth products.

ADF also offers:
        Turkey Broth
        Pork Broth
        Beef Broth
        Chicken + Chicken Broth
        Chicken Fat + Chicken Broth

Broth particularly benefits the treat market, one of the fastest growing segments in the petfood industry. Typically in the treat aisle, the more premium the product label, the greater the eye appeal, so a more substantive formula or ingredient label will attract customer attention.

All ADF® spray-dried chicken broth products are agglomerated and will readily mix into ambient water. All ADF® spray-dried broth products are available in 50 pound packaging, and are available direct from ADF customer service in volumes to fit your needs.

ADF has supplied high-quality spray-dried meat and poultry-based ingredients to the petfood industry since 1978. ADF is also well-known as a world leader in the sourcing, spray drying and supply of petfood grade egg to domestic and international petfood companies. All of ADF’s processing and spray drying plants utilize HACCP, are EU certified and are inspected by American Institute of Baking (AIB) receiving the certification of “superior.” ADF employs, at our processing plants, top professionals in the industry, with customer service unequalled in the industry. ADF® SPRAY-DRIED COOKED CHICKEN LIVER SUPPLIES BALANCED NUTRITION Fat, Protein and Palatability Supplied by One Popular Ingredient

(Springfield, MO July 21, 2006) – Savvy consumers look for chicken liver on the label of both dry and canned cat foods, dog foods and upscale pet treats. The best source for liver comes from freshly harvested raw materials –American Dehydrated Foods, Inc. (ADF) sources their fresh chicken livers from USDA-inspected food facilities.

Pets not only crave the taste, but their bodies crave the rich, dense nutrition of liver. The highly digestible protein in liver helps pet grow and provides for healthy maintenance. ADF offers spray-dried cooked chicken liver with a choice of natural or other antioxidants, containing a minimum fat content of 20% and minimum 56% protein. Other liver options for the formulator include a spray-dried cooked chicken liver and chicken blend for a higher fat content and chicken for your label, a spray-dried cooked pork liver with a minimum 60% protein, and an “Allergen Free” Spray Dried Chicken Liver Hydrolysate. All ADF Products are shelf-stable up to one year.

Cat food formulations particularly benefit from added liver because it helps cut down on ash content in meat-based diets. A high level of ash can cause urinary tract infections in felines. Cats require the higher level of protein readily available in liver and do not handle more common, grain-based fillers as well as dogs. Including liver in a cat food product not only displays a quality image to the consumer; it also delivers on a quality promise to best maintain the pet’s health.

An inclusion or application with a spray-dried liver product from ADF enhances the palatability of most formulas. Low maximum moisture coupled with high levels of highly digestible protein make the spray-dried liver products from ADF easy to use in formulations. And ADF’s quality assurances and standardized nutrients provide a consistent, accurate level of digestible nutrients for inclusion in your pet foods and treats.
